Pros & Cons focuses on five characters and three professions. While lawyers, doctors and cops have become icons of popular culture in movies and on television, Pros & Cons has drawn them together for the first time in a comic strip format.

characters for ABOUT.jpgSamuel Rhodes, a defense lawyer, Gillian Jaggers, the District Attorney, Lyndon Peel, a psychiatrist and Stan Defoe, a cop, strive heroically to balance professional ethics with human frailties in an effort to make sense of their lives and the world. In so doing, they experience the full gamut of emotions from professional pride to embarrassment, from love to downright animosity.

When the competition and stress becomes too great, they withdraw to a haven of calm called Defoe’s Diner. Owned by Sophie Defoe, Stan’s sister, her diner is the closest thing any of them have to a neutral zone.

website-kieranmeehan-webKieran Meehan was born in London in 1952 and moved with his family to Glasgow in 1963.

From the age of 16, he worked in several advertising agencies and design studios. Over that time, he produced cartoons on a freelance basis for a variety of publications, including Private Eye, The Spectator and Reader’s Digest. This led to regular weekly spots in The Glaswegian, a local newspaper, and Scotland on Sunday, a national broadsheet.

The Los Angeles Times Syndicate launched his daily comic strip, Meehan Streak in 1999. LATS was taken over in 2001 by Tribune Media Services, which continued to syndicate the strip until 2005. In that same year, he went professional and began producing a daily single-panel cartoon for the Glasgow Evening Times.

In 1994, Kieran sent cartoons on a regular monthly basis to The New Breed which was a showcase feature that King Features began as a way to discover and stay in touch with cartoonists who showed potential. In two years, 100 of his single-panel cartoons were syndicated under this title. Jay Kennedy, the late comics editor of King Features, offered him a development contract to work on a concept based loosely on three characters/scenarios which had appeared regularly but independently of one another in Meehan Streak. In September 2005, King Features launched A Lawyer, A Doctor & A Cop.  In 2008, this strip was relaunched under the new title, Pros & Cons.
